BIO
Karl Eland is a truly gifted songwriter who writes timeless storytelling songs. He has that rare ability to perfectly blend sing-along anthems that get the heart pounding - alongside slower folk storytelling tracks, perfect for quiet contemplative listening.
With songs about love, friendship, broken dreams, hope, restlessness and youth he tells the stories that we have all lived, that feature the same characters that we all grew up with and have known in our own lives. Whilst his lyrics can often be sad and moving, at the same time they can be intensely romantic and hopeful.
Karl is from Preston in the UK, a town in the north of England that sits between 2 city's with a big music tradition – Manchester and Liverpool. He began playing the guitar in his early 20s and following a number of cover bands, he eventually began to write his own material, playing many gigs in his hometown of Preston and at venues such as the Blue Cat Café in Manchester.
From here Karl spent most of his life out on the road playing live shows across the UK - including a performance on the acoustic stage at The Stockton Riverside Festival supporting Badly Drawn Boy, and a support slot with legendary country-folk-rockers Chas & Dave at the Cavern Club in Liverpool.
For a number of years London became a second home for Karl where he was a popular favourite on the capitals music scene - playing gigs at venues such as The Troubadour Club, The Bedford and The Regal Room. Wherever Karl plays he always leaves an impression as a profound songwriter. This led to Karl becoming a weekend resident act at one of London's premier music venue’s Proud Camden.
Along the way, Karl’s music has always been met with critical acclaim from DJ's, reviewers and fans from around the world and his tracks have been played on a number of radio stations in the UK, across Europe, the USA, Canada and Japan. In one particular week, 3 different DJ's from the legendary Radio Caroline all rotated his tracks at the same time and he has made several appearances on BBC Radio.
For Karl’s latest tour, he embarked on a tour of Nashville Tennessee where he played many of the city's top songwriter venues such as The Bluebird Café, Douglas Corner and The Commodore. During this time Karl's impact went from strength to strength - often receiving standing ovations for his brand of compelling storytelling.
Karl commented, “In Nashville the songwriter is king and I became very interested in the way that they do it there. There is a lot of emphasis on the craft and storytelling side of song writing and as such the bars are filled with guys playing stripped down acoustic versions of their songs - I loved this the most about Nashville!"
In 2022 Karl released his debut Spotify Album Playlist - 'Highway Dreams'.
